  6. This README describes an OS/2 device driver (LMS205.ADD) for the single session 
  7. Philips LMS CM205 and CM225 CD-ROM drives. 
  8.  
  9. The single session CM205 has series code A, B, C, or D.  Some series E drives 
  10. were also single session.  The series code is the first character of the serial 
  11. number on the drive label on the rear of the drive.  Series F and later (and 
  12. some series E) are multisession drives.  For those drives, use the multisession 
  13. and 2x device driver: LMS206.ADD.

  18. The OS/2 Philips LMS CD-ROM device driver (LMS205.ADD) supports the following 
  19. features:

  21.  Γûá Reads data from CD-ROM discs conforming to the High Sierra/ISO-9660
  22.    file formats.
  23.  
  24.  Γûá Plays audio from standard audio CDs or mixed mode CD-ROM discs
  25.    containing both data and audio
  26.  
  27.  Γûá Single session photo CD
  28.  
  29.  Γûá Reads data from Mode 2 Form 1 or Mode 2 Form 2 sector formats

  43. Before starting the installation procedure, you should unzip the files included 
  44. in the LMS205.ZIP file and copy them to a diskette. The diskette you created 
  45. will be referred to as the "Philips LMS CD-ROM Device Driver Diskette" in the 
  46. following installation instructions. 
  47.  
  48. The following files are included in the LMS205.ZIP file: 
  49.  
  50.   LMS205.ADD  -  OS/2 device driver for CM205 (single session)
  51.   LMS205.DDP  -  Installation profile
  52.   README.205  -  This README file.

  55. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.2.1. Installation if OS/2 2.1 is already installed on your fixed disk ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  57. 1. Run the Device Driver installation program
  58.  
  59.   a. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop.
  60.   b. Open the System Setup folder.
  61.   c. Open Device Driver Install.
  62.   d. Insert the "Philips LMS CD-ROM Device Driver Diskette"
  63.   e. Select Install
  64.   f. Select the device driver to install from the list
  65.   g. Select OK.
  66.  
  67.   (Note: You do not need to reboot OS/2 before starting step 2 below).

  69. 2. After the Device Driver Installation is complete, you must run
  70.   Selective Install to install the files for the OS/2 CD-ROM Device
  71.   Manager and OS/2 CD-ROM File System.

  73.   a. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop.
  74.   b. Open the System Setup folder.
  75.   c. Open Selective Install
  76.   d. Select the CD-ROM Device Support check box
  77.   e. Select OK
  78.   f. Scroll to the bottom of the CD-ROM device list table and
  79.    select the choice OTHER
  80.   g. Select OK
  81.   h. Select the OK push button to proceed from the System Configuration
  82.    screen to the OS/2 Setup and Installation window
  83.   i. Select Install
  84.   j. When prompted to do so, insert the numbered installation diskettes
  85.    or installation CD-ROM from the OS/2 2.1 product.

  87. 3. Shut down and restart your system
  88.

  90. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.2.2. Installation from the CD-ROM version of OS/2 2.1 ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  92. 1.  Make a copy of the OS/2 2.1 diskette labeled "Diskette 1"
  93.  
  94. 2.  Copy the file LMS205.ADD from the "Philips LMS CD-ROM Device Driver
  95.   Diskette" to the root directory on the copy of the OS/2 2.1 Diskette 1.
  96.  
  97.   (Note: If there is not enough room on the copy of OS/2 2.1
  98.    Diskette 1, then delete the file IBM2SCSI.ADD.  If you delete
  99.    IBM2SCSI.ADD, you must also edit the CONFIG.SYS file and delete
  100.    the line BASEDEV=IBM2SCSI.ADD)

  102. 3.  Edit the CONFIG.SYS file located on the copy of Diskette 1.
  103.   At the end of the file, add the following statement.
  104.  
  105.     BASEDEV=LMS205.ADD
  106.  
  107.  
  108. 4.  Begin the installation by inserting the Installation Diskette
  109.   into drive A and restarting the system.  When prompted to insert
  110.   Diskette 1, insert the copy that you modifed.
  111.  
  112. 5.  When the System Configuration screen is displayed during installation,
  113.   the CD-ROM Device Support field will display "None".  Do not modify
  114.   the choice and continue with the installation.
  115.  
  116. 6.  After installation is complete, and you have rebooted your system,
  117.   you will not be able to access your CD-ROM drive.  This is due
  118.   to a defect in the OS/2 2.1 install program.  To access your
  119.   CD-ROM drive, perform the following steps:
  120.  
  121.   a. Copy the following files from the OS/2 2.1 Diskette 1
  122.     to the drive which OS/2 was installed.
  123.     (Note: the example assume C:, change if different)
  124.  
  125.     COPY A:OS2CDROM.DMD C:\OS2
  126.     COPY A:CDFS.IFS   C:\OS2
  127.  
  128.   b. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file on drive which OS/2 was installed
  129.     and add the following statements to the end of the file:
  130.     (Note: the example assume C:, change if different)
  131.  
  132.     DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q
  133.     IFS=C:\OS2\CDFS.IFS /Q
  134.  
  135.   c. Shut down and reboot the system
  136.

  138. 7.  You will need to run Selective Install to copy over some remaining
  139.   system files.
  140.  
  141.   a. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop.
  142.   b. Open the System Setup folder.
  143.   c. Open Selective Install
  144.   d. Select the CD-ROM Device Support check box
  145.   e. Select OK
  146.   f. Scroll to the bottom of the CD-ROM device list table and
  147.     select the choice OTHER
  148.   g. Select OK
  149.   h. Select the OK push button to proceed from the System Configuration
  150.     screen to the OS/2 Setup and Installation window
  151.   i. Select Install
  152.   j. When prompted to do so, insert the installation CD-ROM
  153.     from the OS/2 2.1 product.

  160. 2. Go to the section above titled "Installation if OS/2 2.1 is already
  161.   installed on your fixed disk".

  164. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.3. Philips LMS Device Driver Parameters ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  166. This section lists the parameters which are supported for the Philips LMS 
  167. CD-ROM device driver.  The parameters can be changed by modifying the 
  168. BASEDEV=LMS205.ADD line in config.sys. 
  169.  
  170. For the LMS205.ADD device driver, the syntax for the line in config.sys is as 
  171. follows: 
  172.  
  173.   BASEDEV=LMS205.ADD [/P:nnn] [/u:X] [/m:Y] [/V]
  174.

  177.  
  178.    Specifies the base I/O port address of the interface card.
  179.    The value must be the same number as the port address selected
  180.    by the jumper on the host interface card.

  185.    Identifies a specific unit, X.

  187.    Valid values for X are 0, 1, 2, 3.  The default is zero.

  189.    LMS205 locates all CM250 and CM260 host adapters and assigns unit
  190.    numbers based on the order in which each was found.

  192.    This parameter tells LMS205 which BASEDEV=LMS205.ADD line it is
  193.    currently processing.

  198.    Indicates the number of 2500 byte CD frame buffers that should
  199.    be allocated by the LMS205.ADD driver.

  201.    Valid values for Y are 8,..., 26.  The default is 16.  Any value below

  219. 1. If you are not able to access the CD-ROM drive:

  222.   a. Add the /V parameter switch to the BASEDEV=LMS205.ADD statement
  223.    in your CONFIG.SYS file.  For example:
  224.  
  225.      BASEDEV=LMS205.ADD  /V
  226.

  228.    After rebooting, the device driver will display the list of
  229.    drives it has identified.  For example:

  254.   b.  Check that the adapter is properly installed.

  256.     Ensure that all cables are attached properly.
  257.  
  258.     Ensure that the CD-ROM host adapter uses a unique
  259.     I/O port address and a unique IRQ channel number.

  262.   c.  Make sure all the required files to operate the CD-ROM drive have
  263.     been installed.  Your CONFIG.SYS file should have the following
  264.     statements:

  267.      DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q
  268.      IFS=C:\OS2\CDFS.IFS /Q
  269.      DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\VCDROM.SYS
  270.      BASEDEV=LMS205.ADD

  273.     If you do not have the OS2CDROM.DMD or CDFS.IFS statements in
  274.     your config.sys, you must use the OS/2  2.1 Selective Install
  275.     utility to install these files.
  276.

  279. 2.  If the drive letter assigned to the CD-ROM drive under OS/2 is
  280.   different than the drive letter assigned under DOS.
  281.  
  282.   The CD-ROM drive is assigned the next available drive
  283.   letter after drive letters have been assigned for the
  284.   floppy drives and fixed disk drives.
  285.  
  286.   The drive letter is also assigned after any installable block
  287.   device drivers which are located in config.sys before the
  288.   DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD statement (i.e. DEVICE=C:\OS2\VDISK.SYS).
  289.  
  290.   There is currently no mechanism in OS/2 for assigning a specific
  291.   drive letter for the CD-ROM drive.  The drive letter assignment
  292.   under DOS can be controlled by using the /L switch on MSCDEX.EXE
  293.   command line.
